Following the family tour in Northern Italy, we ended up in Switzerland for the remaining days. This gave us time to take a few day trips to places we mapped out; one of those being Lucerne.
This was my second time in Lucerne; visiting before back in 2016, if I recall correctly. From what I could tell, nothing really changed – and that’s a good thing.
Navigating Lucerne was like riding a bike again. All the main points of interest were well within walking distance and directionally kind of made a loop. We started with the bridges, made our way over to the old city walls and then finally over to the historic Lion Monument. It was such a nice day in the city to take our time walking around. The atmosphere reminded me of Verona, as things were relaxed and not too crowded by tourists.
Walking beer in hand, we explored the city streets. The artwork on some of the building was much more tasteful than the typical graffiti we had seen in other cities. The drawings reminded me of “Where the Wild Things Are.’ At one point, all the chocoholics in my family gravitated towards one of the artisan chocolate shops called Läderach. We loaded up on some pralines to make to day trip that much sweeter.Fueled by Swiss chocolate, getting up on top of the old city walls was something new for me on this trip, and offered up a great viewpoint of the city. Overall, it was a pleasant daytrip from Zürich by train that gave my family a memory and a chance for myself to experience Lucerne all over again.
